Noah Bryant was a four-time All-American for the Trojans of the University of Southern California. In 2007, he was both the indoor and outdoor NCAA National Champion in the shot put. In June, he was 4th at the USATF Outdoor National Championships, which earned him a berth on the US World Championship Team competing in Osaka, Japan in August; all of this only two years after a near fatal hammer accident. Noah was born on May 11th, 1984 in the California town of Santa Barbara. He grew up playing all the different sports, but got the throwing bug when his father, Dan Bryant (NAIA All-American) introduced him to the shot put when he was in 7th grade. While in high school at Carpinteria High School, Noah was a three-time USATF Junior All-American. He finished third in the California State Meet his junior year; and the next year (2002), as a senior in high school, he was the California State high school champion in the shot put. Noah was undefeated in the shot during his senior year, including a victory at the Golden West Invitational. He decided to continue his shot putting career as a Trojan, at the University of Southern California. During his freshman year at USC, Noah was the runner-up at the 2003 USATF Junior National Championships. That earned him a spot on the 2003 US Junior Team competing at the Pan-Am Junior Championships in Barbados. At the Junior Pan-Am Championships he threw a two-foot personal record to win the Silver Medal. In 2004, as a true sophomore, Noah was an NCAA All-American in the shot put. He had a personal best of 19.02m (625.5) in the shot put. 2005 was a trying year for Noah. In only the second meet of the year, he narrowly escaped death when he was struck in the face with a hammer. During the warm-ups for the competition he released the hammer a little early and it ricocheted off the chain-link cage straight back at him. The hammer hit him directly underneath his right eye, shattering his orbital bone into fourteen little pieces. After the surgery to repair his face, the operating surgeon told Noah that he was millimeters from death. The accident resulted in the NCAA granting Noah a medical red shirt year. As a red shirt junior, in 2006, Noah was the Pac-10 champion in the shot put; coming back on his last throw to toss a personal best of 19.67m (646.5). Noah also finished seventh at the NCAA Championships to earn his second All-American certificate. In the 2007 season Noah was the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the shot put. He threw a personal best of 20.55m (675.25) at the Indoor national meet. He threw an Outdoor personal record of 20.56m (675.5) at the USC-UCLA "Dual Meet. " That throw broke the 36 year-old USC school record in the shot put. Most recently, Noah placed fourth at the USATF National Championships to earn him a spot on the US Team heading to the World Championships. Noah is currently training hard to prepare for the World Championships in Osaka, Japan on August 25th.
